School History

Brewood CE Middle Academy admits pupils from age 9-13 years and is a co-educational church school administered by the Staffordshire County Council Education Committee. It not only serves pupils from local villages including Brewood, Bishopswood, Coven, Blymhill, Lapley, Stretton, Weston-under-Lizard and Wheaton Aston but also those from out of its locality, including Wolverhampton.

The school enjoys a rural setting and is located in the attractive village of Brewood. The original building was formerly a Grammar School dating back to the early 18th Century. This closed in the 1970s and was then converted into a Middle School.

In September 2009 the school was be designated as a Specialist School for Science and Maths and we continue to ensure that an exciting programme of activities for pupils in these specialist areas thrives with activities ranging from visits to Paris to TT Rockstar competitions. Enrichment activities take place throughout the year incluinge a visit from the Space Dome, a  “rocket day”  for year 4 students and visits to places of interest such the Science Museum in London and the Big Bang Fair in Birmingham.

The school’s excellent facilities include an Internet Café, ICT Suites, Library, Dance Studio, Science Laboratories, a Food Technology/Textiles Room, Design Technology Studio, Art and Music Rooms. Outdoors there are well equipped play areas, two playgrounds, an outdoor gym, a sports field, a pond, wildlife area and a garden.

In 2011 Brewood CE (C) Middle School and St Mary’s CE First School at Wheaton Aston federated and have a shared Executive Headteacher and joint governing body. In September 2013 St Mary’s CE First School opened a new government led nursery which also has a breakfast and out of school club.

Brewood CE Middle Academy is part of the Wolgarston Collaboration which is a group of 11 schools which comprises all First Schools in the Brewood and Penkridge area, plus both Middle Schools and Wolgarston High School.
