Ethos, Christian Values and Collective Worship
Ethos
Brewood CE Middle Academy endeavours to serve the community in which it exists. As a Church of England middle academy each member of our learning community is valued, respected and treated equally regardless of gender, race, belief and ability.
We seek to enable children to achieve their potential and to flourish through the core values of respect, faith and resilience. We do this by devising an exciting and vibrant curriculum, which engages and enthuses our young people and this in turn is supported by our shared Christian values
Our core values are – Respect, faith and resilience
Our key biblical underpinning is – ‘Let all that you do be done in love’
1 Corinthians 16:14
The Local Academy Committee and staff have high expectations of our pupils, regardless of their ability and are committed to providing a high quality education for all. Our strong pastoral care system helps us to develop pupils as confident individuals who have self-discipline, respect for others and a caring attitude towards the community in which they live.
Brewood CE Middle Academy is a faith school with a distinctive Christian character which reflects the Church of England tradition. We ensure that within the Anglican tradition we uphold the principle of being inclusive and in promoting cohesion in our school and across our local community.
Collective Worship
Collective worship plays a central part in the life of Brewood CE Middle Academy. Collective worship is a means by which the school’s Christian vision is expressed (Strand 6 SIAMS 2018). As an expression of the Christian vision, ethos and spiritual life of the academy it offers the whole school community opportunities to experience/participate in/take responsibility for the living expression of Christian worship, valued and honoured through the academy’s Anglican Foundation. We affirm every individual’s unique contribution, regardless of age, gender, sexuality, ability, background or religion or faith.
The academy celebrates its foundation through collective worship that is distinctly Christian but inspires and includes the whole community. At Brewood we aim to offer worship that is inclusive, invitational, and inspiring. In doing so our aim is to offer the opportunity, without compulsion, to all pupils and adults to grow spiritually through experiences of prayer, stillness, worship, and reflection.
As a church academy, we believe that it is important for the school community to gather together to take part in acts of class or whole school collective worship. During this time, pupils are able to reflect upon, discuss and explore the themes chosen; many of which centre on Christian values of:
- Knowledge
- Justice
- Courage
- Respect
- Truthfulness
- Love
- Generosity
- Service
- Friendship
- Trust
- Forgiveness
- Compassion
Church of England schools have at their heart a belief that all children are loved by God, are individually unique and that the school has a mission to help each pupil to fulfil their potential in all aspects of their personhood: physically, academically, socially, morally and spiritually.
Our aim is that all may flourish and have an abundant life.
At Brewood CE Middle Academy, we want all pupils to willingly engage in learning in a safe and welcoming environment.
St Mary and St Chads’ Church
There are strong links with St Mary & St Chads’ Church and all the children visit church at least termly for special services at the beginning of each term, Harvest, Remembrance, Christmas, Easter and our end of year thanksgiving service.
A variety of other visits during the year allow pupils to explore the Church and faith. Our harvest offering each year supports both the academy’s “Donation Station” and the local foodbank. Parents and other visitors to the academy are welcomed to these services.
Parents have the right to withdraw their child from taking part in acts of worship. However, the Head Teacher must be informed prior to any parent exercising this right.

Pupils are happy at Brewood Middle CofE Academy and many describe it as being like a ‘family’
